World Languages students in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Ponce de Leon Middle School researched countries on all continents most affected by the problem of homelessness, and became more familiar with international humanitarian organizations that make a difference world-wide.

Students identified some causes at the root of the problem; learned about international efforts conducted in various countries to decrease homelessness; and used their critical thinking skills to reflect upon possible solutions.

As one of the thousands of lucky Miamians selected by lottery to receive coveted tickets to the Antiques Roadshow taping, I spent the day meandering around the sections of paintings, folk art, sculpture, books, furniture and everything else imaginable. The show was taped on Saturday, July 10 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Anthurium faustomirandae, one of my favorites, has moved from the conservatory to the rainforest as preparations are made for construction of the new science village at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. The conservatory plants will be moved to the nursery or, like Fausto, find a natural setting.

It was a cold and blistery afternoon with a definite hint of rain in the air. However, people bundled up with coats and hats, gloves and scarves, and even an umbrella or two, and gathered the afternoon of December 9th at the historic Alhambra Water Tower in Coral Gables.
