Howard Glicken, chairman and CEO of the Coral Gables-based The Americas Group, was honored Friday night, Oct. 23, with the Coral Gables Community Foundation’s first Legacy Award for enhancing the City Beautiful’s greenery.

As a past chairman of the foundation, Mr. Glicken founded the Greening of the Gables initiative to help the city re-plant trees and landscaping damaged by past storms. Mr. Glicken also established the Greening of the Gables Ball, a fundraiser that provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the foundation’s work.

Mr. Glicken has more than 35 years of business and political experience in Latin America and currently heads The Americas Group, an advisory and merchant banking firm focusing on Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean. He served as a private-sector adviser in the Clinton administration and was an early promoter of bringing U.S. business and investments to the region.

Mr. Glicken was recently elected chair of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida’s Advisory Board.
